The Victorian Legends

The Past Pupils of Victoria Park High School have been around since 1940, when the School was founded.  Traditionally, there were no formal Reunions and the various Class groups would organise their own get-togethers, mostly at different dates and times.  The main driver of anything at that stage was Marintha Du Preez - Tannie Dup.

The Class of 1985, under Rob Jones and a few others, got themselves fairly well organised for their 25th Reunion in 2010.  They did some work on the website, got a basic Constitution going, called themselves the Victorians and their celebrations were well attended.

However, notwithstanding all this effort, the following year things started falling apart, mainly because the Class of 1985 no longer had a Reunion to organise - and nobody stepped into the breach.  It was felt that a more permanent structure for the Past pupils needed to be put in place - one that was not reliant on a particular year group.

And so the Victorian Legends, as we know them today, was born.  The Association was formalised, a new Constitution proposed, a permanent committee from various years was put together and meetings were structured, as were minutes of those meetings.  The School recognised the new structure and appointed Sharon Williamson (1982) as liaison between the Legends and the School.

The Mission of the Victorian Legends is:
- to keep in touch with all past pupils of VP;
- to organise Reunions, etc for them; and
- to support and assist the School in any way possible.

To this end, we organise annual Reunions (which are growing from strength to strength), organise quarterly social and sport events, keep in touch with past pupils with regular newsletters, raise funds through various means, as well as participate in various projects around the School.
